Sharon Kang —

Term 3 has been a fantastic and engaging term for the Mathematics Faculty, filled with challenges, collaboration, and celebration of mathematical thinking. Our students have shown outstanding enthusiasm and effort across a range of activities that extended beyond the classroom.

A highlight of the term was the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), in which 73 of our students from Years 7 to 10 participated. Record number of participants! This prestigious national competition, run by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), challenges students to apply logical reasoning and creative problem-solving to complex mathematical problems. We are incredibly proud of all students who took part and look forward to receiving the results in the coming weeks.

During Public Education Week 2025, our Year 7 and 8 students took part in a lively and interactive ‘Stick and Solve’ Competition. Working in small groups, students were given a series of puzzles and problem-solving tasks involving matchsticks — requiring both critical thinking and teamwork. The room was buzzing with excitement as students raced to find solutions and compete for fun prizes. It was a great opportunity to show that mathematics can be both challenging and a lot of fun!

We thank our students for their participation and effort this term, and our staff for making these opportunities possible. We look forward to more exciting mathematical adventures in Term 4!
