Highlights from Science

From the Science team

So, we come once again to the end of the year. All students should be proud of their accomplishments in Science throughout 2024. Year 8 students undertook their 8Validscience examination. This statewide examination allowed students to display their science skills and understanding that they have gained over their first 2 years of high school. Their results will be able to show how they are progressing in their science understanding compared to all 2023 year 8 students in NSW. Keep an eye out for those results to be emailed out to you by early 2025

Once again, our Agricultural Technology students have also had a bumper crop this year. This year's class has been able to grow a wide range of produce ranging from a vast selection of herbs, spinach, carrots, tomatoes and corn, just to name a few. I’m sure that the families of these students enjoyed the meals that these crops were added to.

As we move into 2025, we in the science faculty look forward to working with our students to develop their understanding of science so that they can build a deeper understanding of how the world around them works. Especially as next year brings a lot of changes. As of 2025 we welcome our first co-educational year group in year 7. Plus we also begin the teaching of a brand new science syllabus for years 7 and 8. So we expect the new year to be one of innovation and discovery.  As renowned Astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin once said, “The reward of the young scientist is the emotional thrill of being the first person in the history of the world to see something or to understand something. Nothing can compare with that experience.” We will all be experiencing a small first in history next year.

From all of us in the Science faculty we hope you all have a good and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing you all next year for another successful year of learning in 2025.
