Term 4, Week 5

Aaron Warrington —

He aha te mea nui ki tēnei ao? Māku e ki atu. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, people, people.

Kia ora e te whānau,

Thank you for your support yesterday as we prepared for the New English Curriculum in 2025. We are in the very fortunate position of having a strong foundation to build on. Currently, our junior teachers are doing professional development in Structured Literacy and starting to plan what this will look like in 2025. As many of you will know Reading Recovery finishes at the end of this year and is being replaced by a Structured Literacy Invention. Green Island School has been fortunate enough to receive funding to begin this invention in 2025.

This Friday 15 November at 10:30am in the library, we will be holding our helpers' morning tea. This is a small way to say thank you to everyone who has helped our school in some way this year. From school trips, camps, businesses who have made donations, Friends of the School, and Board of Trustees, the list is endless. If you are one of those wonderful people, you should have received your invite via email. If you have been missed, please join us. Those who can't make it, thank you for helping us make our kura the best it can be.

Finally, today is a significant day in our country with the crown apologising for the abuse that has happened in state-based and faith-based care. Like all of you, the stories from victims and survivors have shocked us all, including the covering up of such abuse. We are mindful that there will be some of us affected, directly or indirectly by these atrocities. So with that in mind, please today look out for one another today. This apology is well overdue.

New Staff 2025 👏

The BOT is pleased to announce Angela Beazley will be joining the Green Island School teaching staff in 2025. Angela will be our classroom release teacher across the school.

Change of Date 🏫

To better fit with Our Year 8 leavers' dinner, we have decided to change the date of our final assembly to Tuesday 10 December at 1pm instead of Thursday 12 December.

Bricks 🧱

As we near the end of the year you may wish to purchase a brick to be added to the names displayed at our school entrance. Funds raised from this initiative are going towards the purchase of IT equipment in 2025. The cost of a brick is $50, with $25 going to the school.

Assembly 🏫

We have a schoolwide assembly on Friday 15 November in the school hall at 2:15pm. All are welcome.
