Term 2, Week 7
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
It's hard to believe we have less than 3 weeks left in the term. Teachers have just about finished writing reports, and our parent-teacher interviews are only 2 weeks away.
Next week we celebrate Matariki, starting with our breakfast with the Nuggets on Tuesday, our Matariki night on Wednesday and then on Thursday our senior Kapa Haka perform at the Taieri Hui Ako.

Harraways Breakfast 🥣
As part of Matariki week, Harraways, in conjunction with the Edgar Centre and the Otago Nuggets, are hosting a breakfast at Green Island School. This will be held in our hall from 8 am to 8.45 am on Tuesday, 17 June. This is open to whānau and friends as well as students.
Matariki Night ⭐️
On Wednesday, 18 June at 6 pm, we will be holding our Matariki evening to celebrate Matariki. This is a great opportunity for our Kapa Haka group to share a little of their performance at the Taieri Hui Ako before embarking on our lantern walk.
As our hall is small, we will perform on our top court under some portable lights. We are currently sourcing some lighting to use. If you have some portable lights we could borrow, please email Mr Warrington principal@greenisland.school.nz by Friday.
Once the lantern walk is complete, we will then join together in our hall for kai.
If you are able to bring a plate to share some kai, this would be appreciated; however, if this will be a challenge, and to make things easier, the FOTs will have a BBQ running with sausages and burgers.
As part of giving back to our community, instead of money for the sausages, we will be asking for a canned item to support our Octacan drive. Burgers will be $5 each. Payment will be on the night, please bring cash only for the burgers. There will be a collection point to drop the cans off on the night.
To help with catering and minimising waste, please click on the link to order sausages and burgers below by Monday https://forms.gle/yJMyJDKmCe5tbA1z8
Taieri Hui Ako
Next Thursday, our senior Kapa Haka students are performing at the Taieri Hui Ako at Taieri College. A separate notice has been sent out.

International Science Festival - 28 June – 6 July
The 2025 NZ International Science Festival programme has 90+ events these coming school holidays – and most of them are free!
We're especially excited to be hosting Dr Michelle Thaller, recently retired Deputy Director of Science Communication at NASA, for several events, including an 'Ask Me Anything' session for all our young people on Sunday, 29 June.
Whether you’re into gaming, quantum physics, technology, conservation, books, talks, learning through play, theatre or comedy, there’s something for everyone, no matter your age or interests.
The Festival Hub schedule is packed with hands-on fun and interesting science as well as daily seminars, workshops, and, of course, our Imagination Playground for the wee ones.
Teachers and Parents - there are plenty of adult-focused events too, so don't miss looking through the programme yourself!
