Aaron Warrington —

Ko te pae tawhiti, whāia kia tataKo te pae tata, whakamaua kia tina. Seek our distant horizons, and cherish those you attain.

Kia ora e te whānau,

We are nearly at the end of the year. I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported our kura this year. Our school vision of Growing Together, Etipu tahi ana has really come alive this year, from our local businesses and organisations supporting our school through sponsorship, opportunities and in other amazing ways to allow our school to be the best version of itself, to the support friends and whānau has shown at school events like Matariki and Production, sports coaching, trips, school camps. The list is truly endless.

Farewell to our staff who are leaving, Sue Maskill, Diane Wright, Charlotte Ford, and Kat Frankpitt. Thank you for your contributions, you will forever be part of Green Island School.

To those students who are leaving, we wish you all the best. Remember our school values: Be Brave, Be Respectful, Be Kind. To our Year 8 leavers, the class of 2024, you fill me with hope - hope that you will make the world a better place. And for that, I thank all your teachers, support staff, friends, whānau, and the wider community for the privilege of having the opportunity to help shape you into the wonderful people you are.

Merry Christmas everyone, be sure to spend the holidays with those closest to you, recharge and to all those returning, I look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.

Ngā mihi nui

Aaron

2025 Student Stationery Packs 📚️

On the first day at school, each child will be given a pack with everything they need, which will be charged to your account for payment when it suits you. This will ensure that all students are ready to learn from day one.

We have sorted quotes to get the best deal and have added no markup, so overall you possibly won’t find the pack cheaper anywhere else, however, if you do not wish to purchase the pack from the school, please let us know before the end of the year. We can provide you with a stationery list for you to shop around. Pack costs are: -

Room 1 = $53.00

Room 2 & 3 = $41.00

Room 5 = $45.00

Room 6 = $36.00

Room 7,8 & 9 = $35.00

School Lunches 2025 🥪

Next year Green Island School continues to be part of the Health School Lunch programme. Unfortunately, we have been forced to change provider to Compass. Currently Kellie and I are getting our heads around the new system so look out for an email or two during the holidays.

I want to acknowledge the awesome work Ronnie, Nasir and the team have done at Time4Lunch. We have really liked what you have done and are sad we are not longer able to continue with you.

Sports Uniforms 🎽

Now that term 4 sports has finished we kindly remind you to return your child's sports top, if you haven't done so already. Once we receive it back, the $20 bond will be removed from your account. Invoices for any tops not returned will be issued in the New Year.

Please make sure to wash the top before returning them as we do not have the facilities to wash them here at school.

Student Accounts 💳️

As the end of the year approaches, we kindly remind parents and caregivers, especially those students who are leaving us, to ensure that all outstanding accounts are settled in full (unless you have an automatic payment setup) by the end of the school year. Please feel free to reach out to Kellie in the office if you have any questions.

Pencil Cases & Pens for Sale 🖊️

We still have plenty of Pencil Cases and 4 Colours in 1 Pens. If you would like to purchase any of these items please see Kellie in the office. Only $3 each.

FOTS 👏

A big thank you to the FOTs (Disa, Robyn, Jollene, Amy, and Shardae) in 2024 for all the Mahi you have done. From grants, donations, and fundraisers; this year they raised over $17, 000 for the transformation of our school library. Over the holidays the final part of the renovation, our shelves will be power-coated black and our walls will be painted. By then our new books will be ready to be added to our collection.

Zombie Run 2025 ☠️

At the end of Term 1, we will be holding our Zombie Run, run by the FOTs. We are looking for new blood to support the great work done this year. If you are interested in being involved next year please email: fots@greenisland.school.nz

Bricks 🧱

As we near the end of the year you may wish to purchase a brick to be added to the names displayed at our school entrance. Funds raised from this initiative are going towards the purchase of IT equipment in 2025. The cost of a brick is $50, with $25 going to the school.

Lost and Found 👕

We still have a large collection of unnamed polar fleeces waiting in our lost and found. Take a moment to browse through and see if you can locate your child's missing gear.

For the ones that haven't found their home by the end of the term, they will be added to our second-hand uniform selection for sale or donation. This allows for these items to find new homes and be used by students who may be in need.

PLEASE remember to label your child's belongings to avoid mix-ups and make it easier to reunite lost items.

Final Day 🙋

The final day of the year is Friday 13 December which will be a clean-up day only. The school will only be open until 12.30 pm.

First Day 2025 🏫

The First day of Term 1 in 2025 is Wednesday 29 January. The school office be open from Monday 27 January.
