Term 3, Week 1
E kitea ai ngā taonga o te moana, me mākū koe. If you seek the treasures of the ocean, you'd better get wet.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome back to Term 3. This term, as a school, we are focusing on Being Brave, Kia Maia. With activities like the school cross country, Polyfest and swimming this term, we believe this gives tamariki ample opportunity to practice.
Every two weeks, in class and through Play is the Way games, we will focus on one aspect of what being brave looks like at school. This fortnight it is about, Having a go.
Having a go is about action. It's not about whether we have got it right or if it is perfect.
In our classrooms, we are going to encourage students to have a go at something, to be brave, whether this is trying a challenging maths problem to sharing ideas in a class discussion.
At home, you can build on this idea by encouraging your child to try a new food, read a new book, or even try a new chore to help around the house.
I think the above whakataukī sums this up - jump in, have a go.
Ngā mihi nui
Aaron

KickStart Breakfast Club 🍞
KickStart Breakfast Club continues in the Hall this term from 8:30 am to 8:45 am. The KickStart Breakfast is WeetBix and Anchor milk, as well as toast with a selection of spreads. All students are welcome.
Attendance 🏫
Regular school attendance is important to your child's success. There is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility.
If your child is going to be absent for any reason, it is essential that you let us know as soon as possible. It is important that you (text us, phone us, or email us) to confirm your child's absence and provide us with a reason.
Sickness Term 3 🤒
As we head into the second half of winter, lots of sickness continues to circulate. As parents and caregivers, you are the best judges of whether your tamariki are well enough to attend school. If you require any guidance, below is a link regarding when you should keep your home if they are sick.
Uniform Term 3 🎽
A reminder that students may wear a thermal under their uniform and/or tights. These need to be green or black.
Students are not allowed to wear jewellery except a wrist watch, a single pair of earrings (studs or sleepers), and/or a taonga.
Cellphones and Digital Devices📵
In line with the government regulations, Green Island School does not allow students to bring cellphones or personal digital devices to school.
If students bring personal digital devices (including cellphones, wearable tech i.e., smart watches) to school, students must hand in their device to the office at the beginning of the day, and can collect the device at the end of the day.
