Secondary School Sport Covid Update

Sport Dept. —

Vaccination required to attend sport events

As we move into the traffic light system the Sport sector has been finalising what things look like on the sporting front. School sport has taken guidance from Sport New Zealand and the below updates will be followed for events.

Please note these rules are for all secondary school sports which includes events like National Championships, North/South Island Secondary School Tournaments, Canterbury School Events and West Coast Secondary School Events - including day events.

For Greymouth High School only events (not mixing with other schools) students do not have to be vaccinated, for example events like athletics, cross country, staff vs students etc.

Now is a good time to organise sorting your vaccine passport if you haven't already so you can be ready to go for attending school sports events - visit My Covid Record to request a passport.

Sport New Zealand Covid Protection Framework for your information.

School Sport New Zealand Media Release

Brief outline of the main points:

  • All School Sport NZ sanctioned events will be restricted to full vaccinated participants, aged 12 and over. This includes coaches, managers, officials and organisers.
  • Where practicable, this mandate extends to spectators.
  • This mandate is for Term 1 2022 (to be reviewed post Summer Tournament Week, March 2022).
  • Due to how these events operate they will not be able to go ahead if vaccine passports are not checked.
