Have you thought about joining the Greymouth High School Board?

If yes - fantastic!

If no - have a think about it!

Who are we?

We are a friendly, focused group of people who are interested in ensuring that Greymouth High School is the best place for all of our rangatahi in the Grey District. On our board we have:

  • Elected parent representatives (see below for our current members)

  • Samantha Mortimer - principal

  • Kiri Russell - staff representative

  • Breagh Watson - student representative

  • Hayden Shand - student representative

  • Joe Mason - Ngāti Waewae

What do we do?

Our primary objectives are:

  • Every student at the school can reach their highest potential in educational achievement

  • The school is a physically and emotionally safe place for all students and staff

  • The school is inclusive of students and their diversity

  • The school gives effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

When do we meet?

We currently meet on the first Wednesday of every month. Generally, this is face to face but there are options to use google meet if needed.

How long are the meetings?

They are never longer than two hours and often shorter. Everyone is sent the paperwork on the Friday before so the Members have more than three days to read it all.

I don’t know exactly what to do?

Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what to do! We are all learners! You can ask one of the other board members or New Zealand School Trustees Association also provides free advice and support through their governance and employment advisory services and professional development workshops. For more information view here.

Other committees

We do a Policy committee and a Property and Finance Committee that meet regularly but there is no commitment to having to join these.

When are the elections?

2023 is the election year for all Boards across New Zealand and our elections are happening in September.

  1. Come to a meeting and see what we do!

You are more than welcome to come to any meeting as they are always open to the public. However, on Thursday 2nd June at 6.00pm (we do usually meet on Wednesdays) we have planned an open meeting with drinks and nibbles to meet informally with anyone who is interested. After this we will hold our formal meeting and we would love you to stay for it.
