Papa Taiao Earthcare.

Lara Thompson, Conservation & Earthcare teacher. —

Last Thursday our Conservation and Earthcare course stayed at school due to heavy winds. We carried out a risk assessment by identifying dangers and decided it was too risky to go offsite. We then watched a movie called "In a flash" which is based on a true NZ story. It was about a school that went on a camp where things took a tragic turn due to weather conditions. We watched it to understand about the processes of risk assessment, management and the consequences of things going wrong. Later on in the day we did some pottery and made terracotta clay lures which we will soak in salmon oil to lure in mustelids. We also made possum lure with flour, icing sugar and cinnamon. We will try these lures out on our traplines when we get back into the bush. A big thanks to Lisa Kilkelly-North for sharing her passion of pottery with us.
