Epic final tournament for this group, fantastic results!
The Senior Girls Basketball were off to Christchurch in the first week of the school holidays to compete in an alternative Secondary Schools Basketball Tournament. After the regular Winter Tournament Week and National Championships where cancelled due to COVID19 the girls were understandably upset to not have a tournament this year, so we were ecstatic to have this opportunity. A large majority of the team is in their final year at school so this year was hoped to be a very successful one with school tournaments.
Thank you to organiser Dave Harrison for getting this tournament off the ground and to Cashmere HS for hosting at their amazing onsite facilities, also to the excellent referees for officiating throughout the three day tournament. Also thank you to Sharyn Rose for accompanying our girls being a great Camp Mum for the team.
This tournament involved some of the largest schools in Canterbury and the strong Kavanagh College team from Dunedin. The results our girls produced were outstanding and just showed how GHS punches well above our weight against some very large schools! Congratulations on an OUTSTANDING tournament, we are all so proud of the teams performance!

- St Andrews College B - private co-ed, 1500+ students
- Kavanagh College - co-ed, 700 students (Dunedin School)

On behalf of the school I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Head Coach Cameron Birchfield. He has been at the helm of the majority of this talented group for the past 5 years, he has taken them away to numerous WCSS competitions, Winter Tournament Weeks, National Championships and of course in the weekly local WC Competition racking up many titles and trophies. Cam has given up many volunteer hours coaching, mentoring and developing these girls, and you can just see how much of a positive impact he has had on this group. We wish Cam the best of luck for his future endeavours and are forever grateful to have had him involved in our school community for such a long period of time.
