Chemistry/Physics Trip to Canterbury University
Senior science students trip to Canterbury University.
On the 16th and 17th of June, a group of senior science students visited the University of Canterbury to work on their assessments. The Year 13 Chemistry class were in the lab purifying dyes, synthesizing molecules and measuring the amounts of various chemicals in tea, vinegar and vitamin pills. Meanwhile the Year 12 Physics class were working with radioactive materials, measuring half lives and observing radiation as well as having a go with the university's tesla coil and microscopes. Between experiments the students toured the university, enjoyed the cafes and spent an enjoyable evening at the Spencer Park Holiday Camp with students from John Paul II and Buller High Schools. The staff at Canterbury and the teachers were impressed by how well the students conducted themselves and their lab skills. We look forward to returning next year with another group of aspiring scientists!
