Awards for Gifted Learners

Morag Newberry —

The Awards for Gifted Learners are now open and will close 4pm Friday 28 August.

The aim of the awards is to support learners’ own choices for extension and challenge outside the regular learning environment. Awards have covered a range of support for groups and for individuals such as; expenses for internship time with a music producer and music lessons; expenses for attending science fares, science residential courses and visits with specialists in museums and businesses; art lessons and equipment; sports coaching and tournaments; chess lessons and tournaments; STEM club fees; environmental projects; dance, theatrical performance and kapa haka performance groups.

The Awards are for gifted learners in early years to their last year at secondary school. We know that most learners know about these awards through teachers so schools are an important promotion channel. We are hoping to encourage more gifted Māori and Pacific learners to consider an Award to support their learning as individuals or as part of a group they belong to.

Learners, whānau and schools will find information about the awards and how to apply at https://gifted.tki.org.nz/further-support/awards/ and can make direct enquiries through enquiries.gifted@education.govt.nz

Thanks
