Greymouth based

PIKE is a NZ dramatic feature film to be directed by NZ filmmaker Rob Sarkies (Out of the Blue, Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story, Scarfies) and produced by Vicky Pope (Savage, Gardening with Soul). 

The project has been developed over the last 4 years in consultation with members of the Pike River Families. The film is about 29 devastated families forming one big family and taking on a 13-year battle for justice and accountability. It is about the empowering friendships that form and the personal difficulties of taking on a very public fight. It is about what can be achieved when ordinary people choose to stand together and fight for what they believe. 

With the blessing of the Pike River Families Committee and Families Reference Group, this production will be coming to Greymouth in early November to shoot key sequences of the film in the town and the wider region.

We are a small independent NZ production and very committed to honouring the Pike men and families in the film, as well as representing Greymouth and its community as authentically and respectfully as possible. We are seeking true West Coaster types (young, old, tall, short and everything in between!) from Greymouth who would be willing to come and help anchor the film in the community by joining us as background extras for a day or two on the shoot. 

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Men aged 18-70 involved in mining, trades, roadworks and physical labor 
• Men and women aged 16-70 

You do not need to have any acting experience and it can be a really fun way to be part of a film production. The film will screen in cinemas across the country when it is finished. We have paid and unpaid roles available. All background extras will be provided lunch and refreshments while working with us, receive an individual credit in the film, and we will have a special preview screening for extras in Greymouth before it is released nationwide, so you can see the film first.
