Mrs Samantha Mortimer —

Tēnā koutou katoa

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou

This is my final newsletter of the year. It has been a great year and I have loved my time at Greymouth High School this year.

Some highlights for me:

  • Getting to know GHS staff, students and our local community

  • Meeting all of our local primary schools principals and teachers and working with them in our Kahui Ako

  • Having Sonia and Angus McFarlane over to Grey High to work with us on the Hikairo schema

  • Popping over to supported learning and catching up with everyone over there

  • Watching our kapa haka group perform

  • Turuki - our junior programme for students who enjoy learning outside of the classroom, which we are continuing next year.

  • The Foundation Skills programme with Tai Poutini Polytechnic. The TPP assisted a number of our students to achieve NCEA Level 2 at the polytechnic while we supported them with Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy and pastoral care

  • Junior 2050 Programme which allowed our students to make some choices about their own learning

  • Watching a variety of sports and cultural events including FAME!

  • Giving out principals awards

  • Watching students receive awards and scholarships

  • Receiving money from Rotary and PLD hours from the Ministry

  • And many other things!!
