Great experience for this young side

This is the first time in a while that we have had a football team attend tournament week, and this was made possible with combining with John Paul II and Westland HS to fill out the squad of 17 players. Although being a very young side they represented the schools extremely well even if it was not reflected on the scoreline. The boys are looking forward to future years as they continue to grow and develop playing as much football as they can.

Thank you to football mad Coach Tangney and Manager Jim Brown for taking away this group of boys for the tournament, which we hope to continue growing on for future years.

Thank you to Solly Turely-West for a recap of the tournament below.

Monday 30th August - vs Kapiti College

After travelling in the morning from Greymouth to Christchurch for team mates to play in important clubs competitions in the Sunday the team has some downtime before the first game of the tournament at 3pm against Kapiti College. This meant the team could get to the field nice and early to get a feel for the space and have a good warm up. It was a close encounter with a 0-2 scoreboard to finish in favour of Kapiti.

Tuesday 31st August - vs St Bernards College and Middleton Grange

It was an early start at 7am to depart by 8:30am for the second game of the tournament. This game was played on an artificial grass turf, which new for the majority of the team and the feedback was an interesting experience for the players. During this game our team scored a very impressive gaols and played really well against a classy St Bernard College side.

Just like the game before our team played really well taking on Middleton Grange. We put up a good fight against the opposing team this time getting on the scoreboard twice to their four goals. After this game our team was treated to bowling being split into two teams and followed with a nice dinner out.

Wednesday 1st September - vs Rangiora HS and Wakatipu HS

Once again an early start for the team, same as it was yesterday. Both games were tough encounters against some good opposition, however the team had some great periods of play and should be very proud of how they played.

These was the last game of the tournament for the team as with being an odd number of teams there was not anyone to play off for in the 15th/16th playoff.

However, to cap off the tournament the boys had the opportunity to sneak in a round of mini golf to keep that competitive edge going before getting on the road back to Greymouth.

We would like to thank Fusion Network for their very generous donation towards the team making it more affordable for all players to attend, we really appreciate your support.
