Water Skiing - Breanna Turnbull

Student Success —

Podium finish!

Last week Greymouth sisters Maddison (Karoro School) and Breanna Turnbull (GHS) competed in the Nautique NZ National Waterski Tournament held at Ashburton’s Lake Hood.

Both were in the girls Under 14 slalom division, with Maddison being the youngest competitor in that group at just 11 years of age. The girls have only been competing in tournaments for the past 2 years and gained some impressive results.

Breanna found herself on the podium finishing in 3rd place overall with a personal best score of 2@52/16 pushing the girls from Auckland to nail their final passes to claim the top two spots. Maddison also gained a personal best score of 5@46 to finish 8th overall.

The girls started skiing and wakeboarding at the ago of 4, taught by their dad Graeme (and a bit of help from YouTube). They spend their summer weekends and Christmas holiday out at Moana on Lake Brunner skiing behind Graeme’s boat putting in hours and hours of practice. Their aim is to get more coaching and take part in the Ski Schools in Canterbury later in the year. The girls have a goal of branching into trick skiing and jumping.

They have one more tournament coming up in a couple of weeks to finish off a season in which they have already exceeded expectations.

Congratulations to both these talented young water skiers! We look forward to hearing more about you next events.
