Greetings from the Supported Learning Department!

Ms Shelly Chapman —

Greetings from the Supported Learning Department. Whaea Annette is away on sabbatical this term so Whaea Shelly (or Mrs Chapman) has taken over with assistance from one of our most experienced relievers, Mrs Moffitt and of course the wonderful support of our Learning support Coordinator Miriam Rees. We have lots of great things happening this term with most of the Year 9 students we have been supporting transitioning well into mainstream classes.

Our younger ORS funded students have been learning all about money, how to count money and count out the correct change for different items, as well as beginning to work with clay. Our older students are mostly out and about in the community but have also been working hard on preparing an area in the school garden for paving (in between the showers and the formation of a small lake, that is). This will then become a seating area under a waterproof shade cloth cover.

We also have two students running lunchtime activities. Nate Vucago's introduction to sign language classes have started again on Tuesdays in C1. Below is a photo of Nate teaching her students last week, which happened to be sign language week. Both students and staff are welcome and even the most uncoordinated amongst us (Mrs Chapman) are learning well. Nate's amazing baking is also a bonus.

Another of our students Royden Giles has started a Board Games club on Thursday lunchtimes at 1.30 until 2pm. Games are available or bring your favourites from home. BYO lunch - we will be there from the start of lunchtime. Royden is also working on a play with some of our other students this term based on one of his favourite T.V shows. Keep an eye out for more details near the end of term.
