From the principal: 2021 Week 1, Term 3

Mrs Samantha Mortimer —

Tēnā koutou katoa

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope that you have had a restful and even occasionally fun break! I was lucky to start my break watching the Junior girls netball team playing in the South Island Junior netball tournament in Christchurch. They played so well and did our school proud both on and off the court.

New staff members

We welcome Richard Bell who is with us until the end of Term 4. He is taking on a number of different classes, including year 10 Global Studies, but he is mainly going to do relief for us.

We also welcome back Shona Preston as our Guidance Counsellor on Thursdays and Fridays.

New roles

A reminder that Kiri Russell is going to be our Trades Co-ordinator so if you need any support with your rangatahi please see her. Shoshy Perchig is our Gateway and Work Experience Coordinator and again if you need support in these areas please see her.

Thanks again to Deane Milne who is now going to cover two Year 9 maths classes for the first half of this term and for the remainder of his time cover the maths Teacher Aide position in Term 3.

Junior rangatahi attendance and engagement project with the Ministry - Turuki

We have been fortunate to have obtained some funding to support us with a junior engagement and attendance project - Turuki. It will be led by Lara Thompson, one day a week, with around 10 junior rangatahi.

Reminder for our next Accord teacher only day - Thursday 12th August

These days are set aside by the Ministry of Education to support the implementation of changes to NCEA, and wider strengthening of curriculum, progress and achievement practice. We will be working hard to ensure that all of our teachers are ready to teach the new standards.

FAME

FAME the musical is on in week 3. We know how hard all the teachers and rangatahi involved have been working and we can’t wait to see it!

“Whāea te iti kahurangi - strive for success”

Ngā mihi nui
