Spirited performance from the combined rugby boys

This year we combined with John Paul II to send U15 Rugby players away to the Rural Livestock U15 Development Tournament, this year hosted in Nelson. Coaches Kriston Guthrie and Brent Lyford along with Manager Marlin Cook took away the boys who competed really well at the tournament which played host to over 30 teams split across two division, out team competed in the Second Division.

Thank you to Kirsty Wilson who was on hand capturing all the action - Check out the all the photo HERE

Tuesday 30th August - vs Taieri College and Wakatipu

Game 3 - Taieri __ has been one of the top performing teams of the tournament, which meant the team knew they were in for a fight. It was a fantastic game of rugby from our team even with a loss of 12-14.

Game 4 - This was the quarterfinal for Second Division playing Wakatipu HS. Our team was starting to tire with low numbers of players for a very demanding tournament, however they still competed very well but eventually lost 5-17.

Wednesday 31st August - vs Southern Southland SEMIFINAL

Game 5 - This semifinal was against eventual winners Southern Southland with our team going down 19-45, however the boys surprised everyone at the tournament with how well they competed during this game. Southern Southland only had five tries scored against them throughout the entire tournament, including the final with Southern won 17-10. In our semifinal against Southern we scored three tries against them which just showed the excellent West Coast spirit of punching well above our weight, plus the boys put up a great fight in every game leaving the opposition with some sore bodies after the great encounters.

Our combined team finished a credible 4th place out of 11 team in the Second Division. The boys had an incredible time competing together and played some very good rugby, this is made all the more impressive as we only had 18 players for the entire tournament showing that never give up attitude.

Most Valuable Player - Payton Guthrie (JPII)

Most Improved Player - Elliot van der Geest (GHS)
