This is what our art teacher, Mr Andrew Dempster said about the photography mission he was on when he captured this amazing shot -
"I was up in a helicopter, with no door for over 5 hours, taking photographs for an upcoming book by Paul Madgwick. Former Greymouth High School student and expert helicopter pilot Matthew Rogatski was flying me around for the day. Simon Lawn (Ahaura Helicopters) oversaw the operation. We started the flight at Ahaura, flew north along the Coast, then worked our way back with me taking photographs until we landed to refuel at Greymouth. After that, Matthew flew inland to the Lake Moana area until we reached Hokitika, where Matthew re-fueled the helicopter. Next, we photographed down to the open Islands and we refueled at Franz. Being by an open door in winter was very chilly and thankfully Matthew had got me to wear a thermal flying suit. While it is a long time to hold a heavy camera up to your eye while moving, it was also a fantastic opportunity to see many remote and beautiful parts of the West Coast."
