WCSS Junior Tennis
GHS Winners!
Greymouth High school students made a successful foray south to Hokitika to play in the West Coast Secondary Schools Junior Tennis Tournament. Molly Meek, Eilish Fraser, Jordyn Austin, Liam Russ and Brennan Thomas all played well and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.
Liam, showed his experience in overwhelming the opposition. His power and all-round court coverage were his major strengths. He won each of his three matches by 2 sets to love.
Molly also demonstrated her prowess in completing wins in all her games. She also filled in in the boys competition due to an injury to the Westland player and won this 3-1, 3-1.
Eilish and Jordyn both played strongly and fought out a tight battle during the round-robin phase with Eilish advancing to the final in winning two sets to one. Molly defeated Eilish in the girls final and Jordyn won the third place play-off in straight sets.
To finish off the day Liam and Brennan teamed up for a doubles match against the JP11 pairing of Sam Bryan and Jack Honey. The Grey High boys won this comfortably 6-3, 6-1.
A big thank you to Mr Robertson for taking away our group of keen tennis players!
