FOOTBALL: 1st XI vs Nelson College Boarders

FOOTBALL —

Match Report from Coach Tangney:

It was the first time this year that our football team managed to play a game on a 11 aside pitch at Arthur Fong. So some players were a bit nervous! These nerves soon faded away as a strong performance in the first 5 minutes led to a penalty for GHS. Marty Rochford won the penalty so stepped up to take the shot and slotted it into the bottom left corner. From then on Nelson College were on the backfoot coinciding another three before half time. Rochford was set up by Judah Wate to score a belter for his hat-trick from outside the box.

It was great to see our Year 13 of Ben Anderson, Tristian Howard and Kye Thomson putting on a solid performance in midfield and defense especially since it was probably the last time they will play for GHS. Quite a lot of changes were made in the second half to try out the future GHS senior team players (Callum Brown, Dylan Holiday, Rata Rushby and Ray Wate) and they managed to hold the second half to a nil-nil score, resulting in a 4-0 win to GHS.

FINAL SCORE: GHS 4 - NCB 0

It was excellent to have this fixture part of the Matt Gunter Memorial Sports Exchange and this year made even better for the football being able to play on the field, last year the rain was so torrential it was decided to play futsal instead. Thank you for coming down for this game Nelson College Boarders!

Thank you to Coach Tangney for his unwavering enthusiasm and commitment to our football sides running trainings through the week to ensure the team is ready to get on the field. Also thank you to Mr McDonald for officiating the game, always important to have good people on the whistle and both sides really appreciated his work.

We had Alyssa Blacktopp taking photos of all the fixtures throughout the day, check out the great action shots - thank you Alyssa!
