From the principal: 2021 Week 2, Term 3

Mrs Samantha Mortimer —

Tēnā koutou katoa

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou

Welcome to Term 3, week 2 and we’re back in the swing of things. A reminder that we only have about 12 school weeks left until our seniors go on study leave so it is time to put in the mahi and make sure that we are getting things done.

Additional funding granted to us!

We have had some fantastic news from the Ministry of Education. They have given us an extra $2.5 million dollars to upgrade the school. This includes fixing any problem area including our windows, doors, flooring, wall coverings etc. We simply could not achieve this on the levels on funding we get so this is really great news! As part of this funding we are also undertaking a complete redesign of the science lab areas which is an area we have identified for a while. We hope to use local contractors and suppliers as much as we possibly can as we believe strongly in supporting our local businesses and community.

Vaping assembly

We are continuing to work with our students educating them around vaping. Last term the Community & Public Health West Coast health promoters came and talked to our staff about vaping and explained what they were going to talk about with our rangatahi. This Monday we had assemblies for all year groups led by the Community & Public Health West Coast health promoters and then our mentor teachers did some follow up work during mentor time. PB4L

Our focus, led by PB4L co-ordinator Kate Halls, is on Community. One of the areas we want to focus on is uniform and about wearing it with pride. We are working with the Senior Leaders and the Student Council on ways to do this. We appreciate your support with this.
