Kia ora koutou katoa

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou

It is already Week 5! It is so great to have everyone back at school and on a personal note I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words regarding my recovery after my hip replacement! Please see below for more information.

Update re: Staffing

Miss Clairol Tiden, our new maths teacher’s visa has come through. We want to thank Mr Neil McKinley for covering Ms Tiden’s classes.

Ka Ora Ka Ako (Healthy Lunches programme)

We are still looking for our Manager for Ka Ora Ka Ako (Healthy Lunches programme). Raewyn McKnight our EO and Kiri Russell our Kaitakawaenga have visited Westport this week to see how they are running their lunch programme. We will keep you posted.

Kaiawhina/Attendance Officer

We have employed Robert Evans to be our Kaiawhina/Attendance Officer for the Māwhera district. Rob already works with us with our Cobden bus project and we will know that he will be a fantastic addition to the team!

Support for our teachers’ pay and conditions - strike day on 16th March - school closed

Our teachers are urging the government to make an offer that improves terms and conditions to a level that will ease the teacher shortage and ensure a settled year for our ākonga.

At the moment there are two different kinds of industrial action to highlight the concerns. One, a relief ban where our teachers are refusing to give up scheduled planning and marking time to cover classes for absent teachers or vacancies. Two, a planned strike on 16th March.

We are working very hard to ensure the least disruption for our students and our community while also supporting our teachers.
