Conservation & Earthcare and Education for Sustainability classes

Miss Lara Thompson —

Our Level 2 and 3 Conservation and Earthcare/Education for Sustainability classes have been busy working with Coast Road Dawn Chorus and DOC to check and maintain the Dolomite Point trapline up in Punakaiki. The students have been exploring what it means to be kaitiaki. The actions they are taking are in a bid to protect our extraordinary biodiversity on the coast by targeting predator pests such as rats and stoats.

Five of our Conservation and Earthcare students recently entered the DOC Rangatahi mõ Papatūānuku video competition. The students were tasked to create a video that speaks directly to other rangatahi and whānau. The theme was 'what things we can do to make sure Papatūānuku thrives. There is $9000.00 worth of prize money up for grabs. We would like to congratulate the 5 students (3 groups) who submitted entries.

  • Tai Poutini Earthcare by Alex Kennedy
  • Enhancing the mauri of Papatūānuku by Tairyn Romana, Rianna Climo and Damien Carelsen
  • What we do to help Papatūānuku thrive by Jak Partridge

All three of our students entries have been shortlisted, alongside 16 other entries. We wish our student's the best of luck and are proud of their mahi!
