Mrs Samantha Mortimer —

Tēnā koutou katoa

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou

Welcome back to school everyone. I would like to thank all of you for supporting your children and us during the time they were learning online. It’s not an easy thing to do, we really appreciate all of your efforts.

We started back at school yesterday and it was really good to see all of our students. For the most part, well that is what they told me, they were happy to be back and to catch up with everyone again!

We are working hard to set routines and get everyone back into swing of things.

NCEA

There are some changes around NCEA and credits that are noted below. We will work through these changes with our students, and ensure they understand what it means.

Students disrupted by 16 days of alert level restrictions this year: (15 days total at L3/L4, and a Teacher Only Day)

Learning Recognition Credits (LRCs)

  • for every five credits a student earns, they get one extra Learning Recognition Credit

  • students at NCEA Level 1 are eligible for up to eight additional credits

  • students at NCEA Levels 2 or 3 are eligible for up to six additional credits.

Endorsements

  • no change to normal requirements.

University Entrance

  • no change to normal requirements.

SUPPORT

If you need any support please talk to your mentor teacher, Dean, or our Guidance counsellors Bob or Shona. We all need some help at times and they are all working really hard to try and make Level 3 a bit easier.

If your family needs any extra support please contact Kiri Russell and she will do her best to help you, including delivering meals if you are in need.

You can call Kiri via the school office 768 0472, her cell 027 200 5666, or email her on russellk@greyhigh.school.nz.

CAFE

Gayleen and her fantastic café Mummhg’s Kai are unfortunately moving over the hill and therefore, shutting up shop from the end of term 3. I would like to thank Gayleen and her team for the amazing food and drinks they provide to the staff and students at Grey High. We wish them all the best. If anyone is interested in taking over the café please contact Raewyn on

mcknightr@greyhigh.school.nz or call the school.

STAFF

Scott Bermingham, our Deputy Principal, has taken up a secondment at the Ministry of Education for one year, based on the Coast. We wish him the best of luck and we will see him soon in his new role!

Rowan Haigh is stepping up from his role as Assistant Principal to Deputy Principal. We will make an announcement when we have appointed a new AP for the year.
