BASKETBALL: Junior Boys vs Nelson College Boarders

BASKETBALL —

Excellent hit out for our Junior Boys side!

This was the first year that Nelson College Boarders brought their basketball teams to Greymouth for part of the Matt Gunter Memorial Sports Exchange, which was fantastic to have this opportunity for one of the most played sports at our school!

Our Junior Team was missing some of the regulars as they picked to play in the U15 rugby game but those who were there - Sonny Haldene, Kaleb Wisdom, Will England, Max Welsford and fill ins who really impressed -  Quaid Roche, Jack Newman, Corbin Bulger represented GHS well and put on a great show for the home crowd in the new gym.

The Junior team started off firing running out to a 15-2 lead over the Nelson side, second quarter Nelson got into their groove winning it 14-17 but GHS still had a strong 10 point lead going into the half. Third quarter GHS stretched their lead slightly and Sonny Haldene lead from the front getting on the scoreboard a lot, he finished the game top scoring with 25 points! The final quarter was a close one again with Nelson just edging us out 11-12, but the huge work from the first quarter put the game out of reach for Nelson. FINAL SCORE: GHS 59 - NCB 45.

Thank you to referees Tim Brownlee and Mr Robinson, and to the Senior Boys for benching. Also thank you to stand in coaches of Joseph Cotterill, Theo Barnett and Alex Fraser for running this exciting Junior team when the regular coach Robbie couldn't be there.

NOTE: There are some photos to come! Will be updating when we get hold of them.
