Welcome to Week 2 of Term 2.

He Ruru Mātauranga

On Tuesday I was fortunate to attend with some of our GHS Board members “School Boards Culturally Sustaining Practices in Governance - He Ruru Mātauraka.” It was great to join other school leaders and members of their boards from across all of the West Coast.

He Ruru Mātauranga is a kaupapa that aims to increase access for Poutini Ngāi Tahu whānau to quality educational opportunities, while also supporting and upskilling the schools, ECE centres and their respective staff within our takiwā/area.

He Ruru Mātauranga ki Te Tai Poutini is being delivered by Reo Māori Mai on behalf of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae and Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio. We are focusing on local pūrākau/narratives as a means to grow whānau, education staff and the wider West Coast.

Ka ora / Ka ako - Healthy School lunches

We are working with Fresh Choice based in Westport to provide our Free Healthy School Lunches. We are planning to start in Week 6. There will be a google form sent out so we can find out about any specific needs. For example, allergies, vegetarian, vegan, halal. However, we can’t cater for our students who dislike specific things. We are very much looking forward to starting these lunches and we know, even though we will have to tweak things as we go, it will be a great thing to be involved in!

Our new school sweatshirts designed by our students are on sale from the Uniform Shop. They are $60 and very warm.

Winter Sport

Winter sports starts soon. We have 10 GHS boys basketball teams and 2 girls teams. Our rugby teams start playing West Coast schools from Week 3.

Industrial Action

We are all hoping that the industrial action is over soon. Thank you for your support.
