Mates & Dates programme —

A healthy relationships programme for secondary school students

Parents & whānau of Year 9 & 10 students are invited to come along to the GHS Library, Wednesday April 7th at 3pm to learn more about the programme

Mates and Dates is a healthy relationship programme that is funded by ACC and has been running throughout New Zealand for the last 7 years. On the West Coast the contract to deliver Mates and Dates is held by West REAP who will be delivering the programme in secondary schools with their trained facilitators.

Starting with year 9 and 10s the programme is made up of five weekly sessionsand continues for each year of secondary school through to year 13.The programme is designed to:

  • identify unhealthy relationships
  • have healthy relationships based on respect, negotiation and consent
  • identify inappropriate behaviour
  • get help if they, or someone they know, are in an unhealthy relationship
  • safely intervene in situations that could lead to harm.

We want to give young people the skills and knowledge to prevent the harm caused by sexual violence and dating violence. These are the relationship and behaviour skills they can carry with them throughout their lives. For more information watch the ACC video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AIlMWKhzNk
