Term 1 is in full swing!
Kia ora whānau,
We are in full swing with our classroom programmes and learning this term, and the energy in our team is fantastic! The students have settled in well, and it’s great to see them embracing new challenges and engaging in their learning with enthusiasm.
Class Novel – Kensuke’s Kingdom
Our class novel this term is Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Alongside reading this exciting adventure story, we are using it as a springboard for learning in vocabulary development, persuasive writing, and reading comprehension. The students are loving the journey of Michael and Stella, and it’s sparking some great discussions in class!
Mathematics – Building a Strong Mindset
We kicked off the term by focusing on developing a positive maths mindset. This helps our students build confidence in their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills. We have also started exploring Numicon equipment, which will be a key tool in our Year 5 and 6 maths learning. It’s great to see the students engaging with hands-on materials to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.
Inquiry – Kiwi Ingenuity
Our inquiry focus this term is Kiwi Ingenuity! We are exploring how New Zealand’s unique approach to problem-solving has evolved, from the resourcefulness of early Māori and European settlers to the innovations we see today. This inquiry is sparking curiosity about how Kiwis think outside the box and find creative solutions to challenges.
Specialist Subjects – Engaging and Exciting!
The students are thoroughly enjoying their specialist subjects, and it’s fantastic to see them getting involved in technology, music, dance, drama, and PE. These lessons provide great opportunities for creativity, movement, and collaboration.
A quick reminder that students need to have their PE uniform for PE and dance lessons. If they do not have a PE uniform, they will be required to wear their full school uniform during these sessions.
Team Building Day – A Huge Success!
Last Friday’s Team Building Day was an absolute blast! The students worked together brilliantly, demonstrating our school values while having loads of fun. The water slide and water fight were a perfect way to cool off in the hot weather. We look forward to more of these fun-filled days throughout the year!
Google Classroom & Homework
Every classroom has now set up a Google Classroom, which students can access through their school accounts. Homework will be posted there as well as on Hero, so please encourage your child to check in regularly.
Thank you for your ongoing support – we’re looking forward to an exciting and successful term ahead!
Ngā mihi,
Rebecca Wong
