Another great couple of weeks for Purapura!

Abi Copley —

Beach Day- Wednesday April 5th

We are super excited to be going on our first trip of the year!

Please ensure all permission slips are returned by March 13th at 3pm. Your child will not be permitted to attend the trip without your signed permission. Payment is made via the school shop. As previously advertised, if we do not meet our financial commitments for this trip, it will be cancelled.

Our walk to Okoromai Bay will be a great chance for our tamariki to apply the skills and knowledge they have discovered during our inquiry into Hauora (especially the physical safety aspect) this term.

A brief run-down of what we have planned so far:

*Water Wise- a nationally recognised program that supports development of confidence and awareness of safety around water

*House Team Challenges- to bond and put our Values into action

*Water Play- to put into practice what we've learnt about being safe in the water. Rest assured, no child will be in the water without constant adult supervision, and they will not go higher than their waist height. This is not a swimming lesson/swimming activity.

Homework & Book Bags

Homework has started to come home and thank you for your commitment to support your child with a recommended 10 minutes of homework per day.

Please ensure your child has their book bag every day.

A few notes to help you:

  • Whilst we recommend 10 minutes per day, we know family life is busy. A 'little and often' approach works better than an intense half hour. If you miss a day, please do not worry!
  • Homework is a home activity and therefore at your discretion and completed how it suits you. We will provide you with materials to guide you, but feel free to do as much or as little as you like
This video will help you pronounce the sounds your child is learning:
The Speech Sounds of New Zealand English
  • In Year 1, your child receives the Better Start to Literacy Approach (BSLA) issued homework sheet.
  • In Year 2, we have adapted these sheets slightly to include a reading log, and spellings should you wish to complete them with your child. Your child self-selects their reading book. They are also welcome to read books from home.
    • If you feel they are too easy, use that opportunity to foster confidence with fluent reading and talk about what they've read
    • If you feel they are too hard, read to them. Let them hear your example of fluent reading and talk together about what you've read

What's On?
