What a Fabulous Term Tuakana!

Nathan Hanwell —

It was been an incredible term, and it is hard to believe just how much we have managed to fit in! First, there were our Shakespear Trips, and the building of our Tuakana team spirit. Then we had our class names, where we focused on team spirit within the classroom, built around the naming of the classes around mythical creatures, from the Griffin to the Phoenix, they were all in there!

There was also Swimsports, which was a tremendous day down at Stanmore Bay Pools, where the students excelled in their support, fast-swimming and all-round fun - they were awesome that day, a real privilege to behold. There were the Swimming Sports Finals that took place recently, where the students represented the school awesomely!

The students have worked their socks off, too, with excellent recounts about a fictional beach day, where they focused on improving their vocabulary and use of words for effect in description, to making huge improvements in their basic facts Maths skills, as well as being able to create different forms of data.

As teachers, we were also truly bowled over by the Passion Projects, which were simply awesome - some of those 3-D creations were the best, let alone the slideshows, scratch programming and short stories - simply unbelievable!

MORE FM FRUIT DROP

It was wonderful to have More FM come in yesterday to Room 25 to deliver a large amount of Fruit as part of their Fruit Drop Programme. The students got to be on the radio, tuck into the fruit and also did some Math Statistics as a follow up - fantastic!

Finally, there were the wonderful Inquiry Projects that blew us all away - the slideshows about the children’s Pepeha (Maori introduction) were stunning, with links to google earth and hyperlinks to their Personality Projects.

All-in-all it has been a stunning term and we’re only just getting started! Next term, based around our Inquiry Topic of Living World, we can look forward to our ‘Pet Days’ (more on that coming soon), as well as a superb visit to the Museum in May!

I wanted to say a huge thank you for the continued support of parents and carers, as well as those of you who have already put yourself forward for supporting our Showcase plans as we build towards our Showcase Performance in Term 3. Your support is invaluable, so thank you again. Hope you very much enjoy the break - your children certainly deserve it, and roll on Term 2!
