Tuakana have had a fantastic time recently, as we get stuck into our Inquiry topic, all about different cultures...

Nathan Hanwell —

After our fantastic Culture Celebrations Day, our Tuakana Whanau have been exploring the different cultures within our classroom. We've been looking at traditions, food and drink, clothing, music - you name it! The students have very much enjoyed exploring the cultures of those around us...

Who is Shining Through this Week?

It is always wonderful to celebrate those students who have really gone above and beyond in showing the Gulf Harbour School Values. Here are the most recent certificates and shout outs:

Afternoon Tea, Anyone?

To celebrate some of our Tuakana Whanau students who always seem to be upholding the Gulf Harbour School Values, or who have shown a strong element of kindess, responsibility, respect or resilience over the past two weeks, Mr Hanwell has set up 'Afternoon Teas' as a reward. Basically, students are nominated by their teacher, and they have the opportunity, on a Thursday afternoon every two weeks, to spend some quality time in the staffroom with tea (water) and cakes (actual cakes), talking about their week and taking it easy! The lucky recipients last time out were: Alice and Dandre from Room 27, Freya and Aurora from Room 26, Damon and Harry from Room 25, Charlotte from Room 24, Miette from Room 23 and Blake from Room 22. Well done!

*Dandre and Miette will have theirs next week, as they were not available for the first Afternoon Tea.

Cross Country Training

We have begun training for our Cross Country Event, which is taking place down at Shakespear Regional Park on Thursday, 31st August. The training involves building up the students' longer-distance stamina and ability to push themselves further than they thought possible. As part of this, we ask that, on Wednesdays, students bring their PE kit and appropriate running shoes. Our daily fitness will also be coordinated to push our students and raise overall fitness levels.

Uniform Reminder

Just a quick reminder of the expectations of school uniform, particularly for our older students, who should be setting the standard for how they are dressed and conduct themselves. We have high standards for how our students present themselves, and expect the students to stick to those standards:

- Hair (when at shoulder level) needs to be tied back

- Only school fleeces (or dark blue) - no hoodies

- Black shoes (no white stripes or Nike-style white ticks) - running shoes can be any colour

- PE kit, changed into and out of when at school (not worn into or out of school)
