Life in Purapura!

Abi Copley —

The last two weeks have really seen our learning kick off, and we've had a blast launching our theme for this term: hauora!

Water Day!

Our tamariki began exploring the concept of hauora (click for more info on this concept) last week, as we took part in Water Day! The idea behind this team event was to start discovering how to be safe around water and begin developing vocabulary through shared experiences; as well as fostering relationships and team building.

Water Day! Abi Copley

We had a fantastic day together exploring the different challenges, working together and supporting each other to make good choices around water. Learning outside of the classroom is really important to children's social, emotional and academic progress as it provides authentic experiences for children to explore and apply their skills and knowledge.

This term the children will be unpacking this theme further, and sharing their learning through digital approaches so make sure you keep an eye on your class' Hero page for more info!

Trips & Wider Learning Experiences

Thank you so much too all those whānau who have already sent in their child's permission slips and payments for these experiences.

  • Our first Purapura trip, is a day at Okoromai Bay on Wednesday April 5th. The cut-off date for returning your child's permission slip and making payment is Monday March 13th at 3pm.

The permission slips and info are attached, and paper copies are available from your lass teacher on request.

Your child cannot attend if we don't have their signed permission forms returned before this cut-off. Unfortunately (as with all the trips) if we do not achieve our financial commitments for this event, it will be canceled.

Waka Citizenship Challenges, 2023

At GHS, we work with you to 'Teach and Nurture our community Together'. One way we achieve this is by setting Waka Challenges. Download the challenges attached and read all about how you can support your child to develop the School Values of Resilience, Responsibility, Kindness and Respect at home too!

Please note, evidence of your child's challenges (photos, videos etc) must be uploaded to your child's Hero profile. Evidence provided in any other form will not be accepted.

General Reminders & Updates

What's on over the next two weeks? — Image by: Abi Copley
  • Health & Safety Concerns-

We have noticed a number of our youngest children are being dropped off at the school gate well before the 8.30am bells rings. Before 8.30am, there is no supervision for your child and we cannot ensure their safety. Please arrange suitable care for your child before school should you need to drop them before school opens.

  • Uniform-

Please note, our uniform requirements stipulate plain black shoes. Crocs, slides, jandals, or shoes with coloured logos & laces are not allowed. The only jewellery permitted is that of cultural or religious importance, and 'sleepers' or studs for if your child's ears are pierced. Smart watches (including fitness trackers with Bluetooth/phone connectivity) are not permitted in class and must be handed into the office each morning for collection after school.
