TUAKANA: Showcase a Roaring Success!

Nathan Hanwell —

It was wonderful to see the culmination of our Cultural Inquiry in the GHS Showcase at the Whangaparaoa College Auditorium last week.

To see each child able to demonstrate their on-stage abilities, whether that be a speaking part, dancing, or even an animal, they were awesome! (especially the sheep!). To see how the many rehearsals and the learning coming through on the stage was a real delight. All teachers, parents and carers should be very proud of what their classes and children achieved during that week - it was incredible!

Passion Projects

This week has also seen many students presenting their term's Passion Projects. Through this process, the students have been able to explore cultures independently, looking at areas not necessarily covered in the classroom and continuing to develop their love of learning - well done to all students who, in a very busy term, were able to put their projects together to present!

Thank You

Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to support your child's classes this term. Whether that be through supporting dances, showcase props, sports events or even as simple as helping prep your child for homework, dress rehearsals and the like! Your continued support is much appreciated, as always.

Term 4 Dates and Information

Next term is another busy one, with Camps, in particular, dominating our outcomes. So, as a bit of forewarning, here are some of the key dates to look out for in Term 4:

CAMPS:

Year 5 - Camp Campbell - Monday, 16th-Friday, 20th October

Year 6 - Motutapu - Monday, 11th-Friday, 15th December

INQUIRY:

Next Term's Inquiry will be based around the New Zealand Election. In week 1, we'll be looking at how and why we vote and looking back at voting historically in NZ. We will then be looking at issues that face GHS and the local community, and groups within each class will be creating their own party, ready for a voting process at the end of term!

LITERACY:

We will be looking at persuasive writing and how to write in a way to persuade others (linked to the Election campaign trail!)

MATHS:

We will complete our work on fractions, decimals and percentages at the beginning of next term, before looking at written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as problem solving. We will also focus on statistics.

Wishing you a Fantastic Spring Break!

As we wrap up this term, we wish the students, parents and carers the very best Spring Break, ready to come back all guns blazing for Term 4!
