Purapura's Wow Work

Trish Oconnell —

Tēnā koutou katoa, greetings, kia orana, namaste, bula vinaka, hola, talofa lava, ni hao, malo e lelei, fakalofa lahi atu, grüezi, dobro jutro, chou nei, ha luo, zdravo, pozdrowienia, helot, merhaba and Happy Luna New Year to all those who celebrate.

Wow what a busy start to 2024 for Purapura tamariki. From setting up routines and rituals, making new friends and building relationships with new teachers/kaikao, our Purapura students have continued to demonstrate their excitement, energy and drive for learning across our Year 1 and 2 classrooms. A large focus for all learners over the last week and a half has been to create various art pieces based on specific learning intentions.

Did you know that engaging in art has many benefits for our children. These include:

  • Building Fine Motor Skills and Neural Connections.

  • Enhancing Creative Abilities and Encourages Imagination.

  • Improving Communication.

  • Boosting Self-Esteem.

  • Building Connection and Community.

These art pieces now take pride of place on our classrooms walls. Please come in and have a look at our GHS Family Picnic.

WaterFun Friday

A group of Purapura children brought their adventurous nature and give-it-a-go attitudes and participated in WaterFun Friday. Tamariki made the most of the warm weather with no rain and propelled themselves as fast as they could down the waterslide on the field. This activity activated our resilience, bravery and turn-taking skills. It was a lot of fun and the excited laughs and whoops of joy enhanced the experience.

Purapura Whānau and Kura Ako (WAKA) Connect

Next week Purapura students will bring home a hard copy of our Purapura Whānau and Kura Ako (WAKA) Connect activities. These are designed to be completed both individually and with family (whānau) support to reinforce teaching and learning (ako) and enhance the connection between school (kura) and home.

Please note that at least TWO activities must be completed and uploaded to HERO each term to qualify.
