Welcome the World to Your Home!

International Students —

Have you ever wondered about hosting an international student? Come to our Info Evening and find out what is all about!

GHS is looking for homestay host families to host students for short stay education and cultural experiences in July and August. Students stay between 1-6 weeks, and we usually place 2 guests/host. Hosts are compensated $325/guest/week.

Hosting is a great way to demonstrate our school values, and you can truly Be the Difference to an international student and their family by helping make their time here a fantastic experience.

We look for a wide variety of host families, who can share some of their culture and lifestyle with them, and our wonderful local area. The most important thing is to be able to offer a warm and supportive home environment where guests are welcomed as part of the family and included into normal family routines. We try to match families with guests of similar interests as much as possible.

We will be holding an Information Evening next Thursday 30th March, 7.00pm in the Staffroom for families interested in finding out more. Come along and hear about what hosts do, what the students and parents are like, and firsthand experiences from some of our hosts. Feel free to ask any questions!

For a brief summary, our students come from Japan, South Korea and China, and range in age from 5- 13 yrs. Children 9 and under will be accompanied by a parent, whereas older students (age 10 and above) usually travel alone. Parent and child, and in some cases, students travelling together, may share a room. As a host you are expected to provide clean, comfortable surroundings, including a private bedroom and linen. Hosting includes three meals/day, and morning and afternoon tea, as you provide for your own family, and travel to/from school (unless in close walking distance). Access to kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities is also required.

To RSVP for catering purposes or for more information please contact Miriam Davis, International Co-Ordinator international@ghs.school.nz
