Cracking Start for Teina!

Nathan HanwellFebruary 12, 2025

Wow! What an amazing start to the year Teina have had! With our Connected Curriculum Launch, New Library, Waterslide and getting our reading, writing and maths programmes going, it has been an exciting start to 2025!

Living Things Launched!

Well, not literally! We have begun our new Connected Curriculum Topic in the best possible way - with a hands-on, team-building, problem-solving extravaganza! With each class being split into four separate groups, the challenge was to create a living animal and work to protect it, whilst solving 7 separate challenges around school to help learn about what all living things need! This ties in beautifully with our New Zealand Native Birds-themed term, visit from Forest and Bird and trip to Okoromai later in the term!

It's a Slippery Slope...

It is so exiting to be able to celebrate the glorious weather we're having by giving our year 3's and year 4's the chance to experience our fabulous water slide! Togged-up and ready to go, the kids were seen launching themselves down the slide at tremendous speed - what a treat! Reminder - year 4 do this on Wednesday, with year 3 on Thursday, dependent on weather conditions.

Three 'R's Up and Running

We don't hang about in Teina! After a somewhat stop/start week last week, this week has seen our Numicon (Maths), Reading and Writing programmes up and running in all classes. Exploring the many Numicon resources, beginning our Report writing for Literacy and finding out about Spiders and sharing the class novel 'Charlotte's Web', the children have been immersed already - long may it continue!

Specialists Create Something Special

This week saw the start of our Specialist Programme, seeing all students having the opportunity of being taught by Specialist teachers. With Miss Henton leading on Sports and PE, Mrs Trevathan on Science, Mr Wesbonk on The Arts and Media and Miss Neville on Dance & Drama, it has been fantastic to see the students beaming as they learn new skills and develop a love of different areas of the curriculum.

Notices & Dates

Year 4 PE Kit Expectation Change - Due to the logistics of the year 4's having to get changed for their Sports Specialist days, we are suggesting that, on the specific day that your child has the Sporst Specialist (Miss Henton), the students are able to attend school and leave

school in their PE kit.

Forest and Bird Visit - Friday, 7th March. We are very excited to have Forest and Bird visiting Teina to run workshops about our Native New Zealand birds and how to better protect them. The cost of this event is voluntary, but we ask for $2 per child please. This can be brought in on the day.

Okoromai and Waterfall Walk - Friday, 14th March. Teina will be conducting the walk on this day, leaving from school, to the Waterfall at Shakespear, then through to Okoromai for our nature walk. If you are able to support/attend on the day, please let your child's class teacher know (more information will be availbale nearer the time)
