Attending school regularly is crucial for a child's development and future success.
This has been our first week back for 2025 and it has been awesome to see all of our tamariki turning up to school on time and ready to learn. Not only is regular attendance importance for our tamariki to succeed academically, but there are also many other reasons, including:
Social Development
School provides an environment where tamariki interact with peers, helping them develop teamwork, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
It fosters friendships and teaches tamariki the value of cooperation and respect for others.
Emotional & Social Behaviour
Attending school regularly helps tamariki build confidence and independence.
It instills discipline and responsibility, preparing them for future academic and professional challenges.
Building Good Habits
Regular attendance establishes a routine that helps tamariki develop time management and organisational skills.
It creates a sense of commitment and dedication that will be beneficial in later stages of life.
Thinking about the Future
A strong educational foundation in primary school increases the likelihood of success in higher education and future careers.
GHS ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS
As per Ministry of Education guidelines our expectation at Gulf Harbour School is for all learners to be present a minimum of 90% of each Term. So far this term we are at 94% attendance - which is great!!
All staff at Gulf Harbour School care about your tamariki, their learning & wellbeing.
We ask that you do all that you can, to ensure your tamariki is at School everyday, is participating & progressing in their education.
Talk to them about how school is important for their future, and how it is important to go every day. Be positive about school!
Only take your tamariki out of school when there is a really good reason, like if they are sick.
Take holidays during the school holidays.
Make appointments, wherever possible, outside the school day.
Come and speak to us if your child is feeling uncomfortable about something at school as we’re here to help.
We want EVERY child to THRIVE, experience SUCCESS and leave Gulf Harbour School as uniquely CONFIDENT, SELF-MOTIVATED learners.
GHS ATTENDANCE ACTION PLAN
As soon as it is becoming clear that your tamariki is entering into Tier 2 or Tier 3 Attendance, and/or if patterns are emerging their teacher or Head of Learning may speak to you regarding their attendance.
Following this you may be contacted by the School Office or Principal, with an attendance Report for your tamariki.
If attendance is not improving after the above steps, we will need to include Attendance Services. Attendance Services will work with you to support you to ensuring your tamariki are present at School as much as possible.
We want to work with you to ensure your tamariki is present at School. We want to make a plan to help you & your child, as to succeed at School they need to be present.
