Hagley Theatresports: Making It Up As They Go Along

Brendon Bennetts, Matt Tripp —

If you are not familiar with Theatresports, it is a competition where up to six teams will be challenged to create short improvised scenes inspired by suggestions from the audience.

For example: in the semi-final the players pretended to be experts on the 'cheetah-wawa' (a cross between a cheetah and a chihuahua), played a scene about an out of control masseuse, and showed a friendship being tested by a lost dog.

It has been wonderful to see the team - Josh Turner, Matt Tripp, Ben Gilling, Toby Swann, Zach Te Maari, and Tas Nagy - develop over the past couple of years. The judges commended Hagley for their positive, generous play, and good sportsmanship.
The finals will be held at The Court Theatre on Sunday September the 23rd starting at 3pm.

-Brendon Bennetts (Senior Team Coach)

"I've been doing Theatresports for five years now and this year has by far been the best one so far, me and the team have had more fun than any other team I've been a part of. We made the finals along with Papanui High, which I used to go to before I went to Hagley. For the first time they're making a team out of different team members from different schools that the judges thought were great improvisers on their own, so it will be interesting to see how they perform. We will also be competing with other teams from around the South Island in the finals on the 23rd of September."
