Takanga émau fohe – Our oars are moving in unison

Mālō e lelei! in this Tongan language week.

Last Monday it was great to have an enthusiastic gathering over morning tea of students who whakapapa to Pacific Islands, as we began to share experiences and ideas of how we could celebrate and support these heritages at Hagley. Students were keen to meet again, and suggested teaching and learning a Samoan siva (dance) as a good way to start things off. We have booked O1 for Monday mornings at interval, available if students would like to keep meeting up.

There are two weeks left of the Monday afternoon tutoring put together by the University of Canterbury, the Ministry of Education and Shirley Boys High School. This is for students studying at NCEA levels 1, 2 & 3. Please see attached information, and let Emma know if transport is an issue.

We are planning to have a fono for fanau next term – either face to face or remotely, if need be - so please keep an eye on your email if you would be interested in coming along. We’d love to be able to connect with you, and hear your views on what might be beneficial for your students here. Many thanks for your encouragement and interest so far.
