Learning Their Way at Hagley

Mike Fowler —

Our senior students value Hagley for diverse reasons, as this year's 'Learn Your Way' stories have revealed.

After the success of last year's  'Learn Your Way' series, we've developed  a second set of stories about nine of our seniors. Hagley offers each of these students what they need - and all of their reasons for being here are really different, as Nasteho's story [above] reveals.

And what does learning their way mean for the other eight students featured?

For Elvis, the Hagley School of Music offers  him the opportunity to do his own thing, to experiment with music, to explore and create.

For Israel, it's the inviting, comfortable culture at Hagley and that his teachers have shown him that making mistakes is how you learn.

For Teshager, it's that his teachers keep checking in with him and making sure he doesn't get behind; he appreciates that they push him in a good way.

For Charlotte James, Hagley inspires her to achieve academically and allows her to be herself.

For Charlotte Van Der Meys, Hagley has given her the confidence and motivation to learn; learning is now fun!

For Liam, it's feeling supported and connected, as well as recognising what being a leader really means.

For Sol, it's being treated like an adult; Sol appreciates Hagley because it prepares him for the real world.

For Samantha, it's the autonomy at Hagley – in what she learns, how she learns, even where and when she learns.
