Creative Cook

Drew Weeda-Ramirez —

The first project of the term was pickles, chutneys and preserves.

Students made a vegetable and fruit product in the three categories. The last one was 'design your own jam'. They had to calculate ingredients and design their own recipe and label. They were restricted to fruit that was in season but that, and the jar size, were the only restrictions. I think it is important to branch out to local communities, to be a part of things and to be proud of it. Richmond’s community newsletter is where I found the Avebury Gala competition. In total, there were 27 entries in the jam category. Hagley College took 3 places in the top five.
