Hokonui Fashion Awards

Vicki Dixon —

Recently nine students from the Hagley School of Fashion entered the Hokonui Fashion Awards. These Awards are firmly established as a key event on the national fashion calendar and continue to attract entries and interest from throughout New Zealand.

Since 1988 the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards have been a competitive platform for all amateur designers, and have provided a valuable opportunity for both experienced and emerging participants to display their designs before a panel of high profile judges, and audiences of over 1100 people.

Judges this year were Auckland fashion designers Jimmy D and Lela Jacobs, Kingston's Jane Sutherland and Annah Stretton.

This year Hagley student Karen Malcom received a merit award for her dress entered in the recycle section. Her dress was made from 10 discarded men’s shirts and shows the level of her creativity and skill along with the inspiration to re-purpose garments and give them new life with stunning results. Congratulations Karen.
