Hagley Theatre Company News

Lisa Allan —

Kia ora all!

I'm Lisa Allan, the new administrator at Hagley Theatre Company. We're based over on the satellite campus at 102 Champion Street. It is officially my third week with the Company and I have to say what an incredible taonga we have here. I attended the Company when I was a school-leaver in 1999 and 2000. The training was incredibly rich and created a foundation for my professional career in the arts that set me apart from the pack.

I have been the artistic director of numerous independent theatre companies; I've created and toured theatre nationally and internationally; I've passed on what I learnt at Theatre Company to young people and adults, emerging artists and professionals. I co-founded the Nelson Fringe Festival, the Nelson Tasman Theatresports Competition and have picked up awards for writing, performing and contributing to the community. This has all been possible because of the training and the incredible tutors I experienced at Hagley Theatre Company. During my years here we delved deep into the art of theatre from all angles. I couldn't be more grateful. Coming back as an adult, I am blown away by how the Company has continued to grow and thrive and I'm learning more about its Artistic Director, Cameron Mattox. 30 years of service! Wow.

We have our "Hagley for a Day" event coming up. This is a chance for school-leavers to get a taste of what being a student at Theatre Company is like. Our event booked up in a matter of days, which is a good sign for our 2022 intake. We have a season of one act plays by American playwright, Theresa Rebeck, coming up 3 - 10 Sept, "A Bar from Nowhere". We'd love to see you at the show and please help us spread the word. Tickets are online at www.humanitix.com. Our applications are open for 2022 too. You can find the form here. Thanks for reading and get in touch anytime. You can email me on lisa.allan@staff.hagley.school.nz. I'd love to hear from you!
