Our response plans: fire, lockdown, snow or flood

Mike Fowler —

In our February e-letter, we told you about our response plan if an earthquake occurs. We also talked about how it’s important that everyone has a family safety plan. We’d like to let our school community know about our response plans for other situations.

Fire

On the evacuation siren, everyone moves to the basketball court in front of the college. Classes line up by their room numbers as marked on the court.

If a fire occurs out of class time, everyone should move to the main lawn in front of the college and congregate behind the teacher from their last lesson.

You can hear what our fire siren sounds like here.

Lockdown

A lockdown occurs when there is a situation where student and staff safety is potentially in danger - for example, a chemical spill, or an intruder on site.

During a lockdown, the police are in charge of the situation.

On the lockdown siren, everyone inside or outside takes cover in the nearest classroom or indoor area. The doors to the room are locked and curtains are drawn. Students sit on floor, against walls, under desks and out of sight from windows or doors.

No-one leaves the room until senior leaders come around the college to notify that the lockdown is over.

We’ll text all parents / caregivers and also place a message on our website and Facebook to advise re lockdown as soon as possible.
