Your Feedback

Jenni Holden —

Thank you to all students and caregivers who completed last month's survey, asking for feedback around changes to our timetable and reporting.

We received feedback from 139 of you, mostly Year 11-13 students and parents/caregivers/whānau.

Reporting:

The majority of student/caregiver respondents found the new Junior and Senior reports ‘good’ or ‘fair’ in their appearance and usefulness, and our current reporting systems met expectations for 83%. Report comments for Senior students may now be added any time throughout this term, so we encourage students and caregivers to regularly check the Portal for updates (log in and go to Results, Current Year Results; new feedback from subject teachers should have the date that it was added in the comment).

Negative comments from students/caregivers around reports centred on some comments being too long or wordy, impersonal, or lacking meaningful information. This is something that we encourage all of our teaching staff to continue to work to improve.

Senior College Conferencing:

Of those who attended, 87% felt that conferencing met their expectations. The reasons for attending centred around wanting to discuss students' learning progress and future course options. Some felt that the time allocated to meeting was too short.

Timetable:

A variety of comments were made, including a number from students/caregivers about 2 hour blocks and earlier start times not being ideal for teenagers. There were also a number of negative comments about well-being modules and buses.

For 2020, we will look at some small changes to the timetable to make it work better for students and staff.

As a result:

We acknowledge that any change takes time to be fully implemented, consistently work well, and to be widely accepted. 2019 has been a year of major change – timetable, reporting and conferencing – and we acknowledge the additional work that staff have undertaken to implement these changes. Thank you to our staff, and thank you to those of you who provided us with feedback. We will continue to work to improve all aspects of our school procedures over the coming months and years.
