Update on our Education Review Office evaluation

Mike Fowler —

The next step in Hagley's ERO review during Term 2 is to determine the focus for our school evaluation.

The rationale for this focus will require us to justify why it's important to us, that it addresses an identified need and that it relates to achieving equity and excellence in outcomes for our students.

What's already happened during Term 1? As a first step, ERO are finding out about us and our key priorities for 2021. That means they look at what is happening for students and what is known about their well-being, progress and achievement.

The outcomes that are valued for students are examined closely, as well as what is known about what's happening for students in relation to those outcomes, the successes and challenges. That’s where our strategic goals are critical. They have a significant role in establishing the focus for the ERO evaluation.

ERO will also look at our internal evaluation processes and their alignment to our annual planning, curriculum design, teaching and learning, and how we use internal evaluation to look at the impact of what we do.

We'll also be asked to show how we give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and that our plans, policies, and curriculum reflect tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori and te ao Māori. Achieving equitable outcomes for ākonga Māori sits at the centre of this.
