Jenni Holden: Hagley's Systems Specialist

Mike Fowler —

Even though her job title is Student Systems, Jenni’s goals are all about helping staff.

Jenni came to Hagley at the start of 2016 into what is a completely new role as Director of Student Systems. Jenni’s role brings many data aspects under one roof. She works with staff across the College running KAMAR (our student management system), timetabling and organising facilities use, MOE returns, attendance data, and student and caregiver reporting. A part of Jenni’s role is to improve how we use data on a wide range of fronts. She wants to help staff make the most of all the data they have access to. That’s everything from NCEA results to attendance to student surveys.

Jenni has a varied background. After completing her Honours degree at Canterbury, she moved to Auckland for her PhD in Statistics, then did tutoring and lecturing at Auckland University.

In 2003, Jenni went to Perth, Western Australia, and put her statistician’s expertise to work as a hospital biostatistician. A decision to make a career change took her into teacher training followed by six years teaching Maths at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School in Perth with a term as Acting Deputy Assistant Principal. After the quakes, Jenni decided for family reasons to return to Christchurch and was appointed as Assistant Head of Maths and Head of Statistics at Burnside, her old high school.

Why Hagley? Jenni says she was ready for a new challenge; in her words: “This job really sounded like me, all the things that I’m interested in.” Jenni has been here a month and loves it. “I’m learning so much. I had no idea what an awesome place this is, being multicultural and with its mixed ages. Hagley is a very special place.”
