Hagley College Impact Project Industry Visit

Nathan Walsh —

Impact Project is a new Year 13 University Entrance course for 2020 where students are using their skills from another subject area to conduct a major project over the year.

Students research, design, create and reflect on their work. There are some amazing projects happening, four of which are:

  • Create a guitar from recycled plastic
  • Create a mural for the Hagley College preschool
  • Create a website of NZ Women’s history
  • Create a mindfulness colouring book for teenagers

Students in Year 13 Impact Project recently conducted workplace visits as part of their project creation. Visits to Hail.to, Croft Print and a visit from Davy Simpson Mandolin maker was a great experience for the students. Learning from experts in the industry who are currently creating similar projects to their own was extremely valuable:

Visits to Hail.to

I found it insightful and informative for my project. He gave me good feedback on my project and designs. I learned about how I could improve my project and issues I might have with the building of my prototype, this industry visit has helped me realize the concept of my project and exactly what I am doing with it.
